About Reid and Riege P.C.
Self-described as “relationship-driven” and “results-oriented,” Connecticut firm Reid and Riege aims to not “over-lawyer” its clients. The firm has four offices in the Constitution State and was named a Top Workplace in Connecticut by Hartford Courant magazine.
A Tale of Two J.R.s
Reid and Riege was founded by not one but two J.R.s: John Reid and Jack Riege. Reid and Riege started their eponymous firm in Hartford in 1950 for the purposes of tax and business planning, estate planning, and settlement and retirement planning. Soon after, its Taft-Hartley pension practice became the biggest of its kind in the New England region. Today, the Taft-Hartley practice continues as a unique practice area for the firm.
Reid and Riege grew in the 70s and 80s, adding to its practice areas real estate, litigation, bankruptcy, and health care, among others, and in the 90s it started its Fiduciary Services Group for wealth management. Its list of practice areas keeps growing: thirteen of the firm’s attorneys made the 2013 Best Lawyers in America list in the areas of environmental litigation, nonprofits, trusts and estates, bankruptcy litigation, white-collar criminal defense, bankruptcy, employee benefits, corporate, and health care.
They Put the “Hart” in Hartford
Soon after its founding, the firm created the Reid and Riege Foundation, which extends donations to and matches attorney gifts to community organizations. Founder Jack Riege also played an instrumental role in the Riverfront Recapture organization, which finds ways to integrate the Connecticut River into Hartford city life. The firm has a specialized Nonprofit Practice and since 2000 has published a quarterly newsletter called the Nonprofit Organization Report, which updates 6,000 nationwide subscribers on topics relevant to nonprofit law. Attorneys from the firm are involved with community organizations such as the Connecticut Historical Society, the Hartford Stage Company, Connecticut Sports Foundation Against Cancer, Lawyers for Children America, Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration.
