Summer Associate Program:

Summer Associates at Nelson Mullins, under attorney supervision, work on current client matters, participate on practice teams, attend Associate training programs, and are paired with experienced attorneys through the Summer Associate mentor program. Additionally, Associates act as Workflow Coordinators to ensure Summer Associates have balanced workloads and receive a variety of projects.

Nelson Mullins’ Summer Program is designed to give summer associates a comprehensive view of the firm's practice while giving the firm an opportunity to evaluate the skills of the summer associates.

Recruitment of summer associates is supervised by the firm's Recruiting Committee but depends heavily upon participation of all lawyers in the firm.  In evaluating applicants, consideration is given to undergraduate and law school academic performance, extracurricular activities, and leadership skills, as well as other experiences and accomplishments.

DEI – Diversity Scholarship:

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is pleased to announce its ongoing Diversity Scholarship Program for law students committed to supporting diversity in the legal profession. Primarily designed to increase the number of diverse law students interested in summer and long-term employment with Nelson Mullins, the scholarship program fits squarely into the Firm’s commitment to inclusive excellence and robust diversity in all aspects of Firm life. Awardees will receive a $10,000 scholarship and a salaried summer associate position at one of the Firm’s 25 offices. (Placement will be determined on a case-by-case basis.) The scholarship may be used toward law school tuition, fees and selected school-related costs such as books and course materials. Up to three scholarships will be awarded each summer. This merit-based program is open to 2L students in a full-time JD program. Applicants are considered across several factors, including:

  • Academic achievement at an ABA accredited law school • Commitment to diversity within the legal profession
  • Excellent writing, research, and interpersonal skills (including an ability to work in and lead diverse groups, recognize, and understand multiple perspectives, and promote collaboration)
  • Not a recipient of a similar diversity award from another law firm for the same time
  • Commitment to spend at least eight weeks with the firm as a summer associate The factors considered in the selection of the award recipient include a focus on a wide array of student backgrounds, characteristics and life experiences — including those associated with race, gender, age, ethnicity/national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, marital/parental status and more. We also consider issues of diversity that may be reflected in beliefs among prospective student awardees—whether political, economic, social, or philosophical.
