For more than 15 years, Nelson Hardiman has represented healthcare providers, including hospitals, physician organizations, long-term and behavioral care providers, and other life sciences and healthcare-related organizations in fraud and abuse, and business litigation; transactions; and regulatory matters. Although based in California, the firm’s scope is nationwide as is its clientele. Today, the firm represents nearly every segment of the healthcare and life sciences industries, including health systems, investors, technology companies, clinical researchers, managed care providers, ancillary providers, healthcare facilities and professionals, and drug and device makers.
Health Law Gurus
The firm’s attorneys have defended healthcare providers in criminal and civil investigations and actions before the widest range of federal and California state regulatory agencies, including those relating to DEA compliance, FDA investigations, allegations of fraud and abuse, and HIPAA compliance.
Nelson Hardiman attorneys have represented all levels of clients in the healthcare industry on a range of litigation matters. Past work has included representing a national health system in an FCA litigation brought by a whistleblower who claimed the health system submitted false Medicare claims; counseling healthcare providers on ERISA litigation; and representing a hospital system in connection with a contract dispute over the sale of another hospital system.
The firm has also provided counsel in health-related transactional and compliance matters, including corporate finance, distressed financing, M&A, new ventures, strategic affiliations, and private equity. Its work has included developing a 50-state post-acquisition regulatory filing plan for a client; serving as Chief Restructuring Officer in a hospital’s Chapter 11 proceeding; and advising on Clayton Act and Sherman Act merger cases.
