About Mendes & Mount LLP
Founded in 1916 in New York City’s financial district, the firm--then Duncan and Mount--specialized in insurance and admiralty law. The firm’s location and choice of expertise proved fruitful as the end of World War I triggered a swell of shipping and transportation activity enabling the firm to prosper.
Following the death of name partner Oscar Dibble Duncan’s in 1947, William Blanc Mendes assumed the managing role, and the firm’s name was changed to Mendes & Mount. As times changed, so did the firm, taking on clients whose legal needs extended beyond maritime law.
