About Loeb & Loeb LLP
Storied California firm Loeb & Loeb’s primary claim to fame is its renowned entertainment and media practice, though its multi-service offerings include nationally recognized practices in the areas of advertising and marketing, technology, trusts and estates, intellectual property, real estate, and nonprofit law.
From L.A. to Hong Kong
Loeb & Loeb’s century-plus history officially began in 1909 when brothers Edwin and Joseph Loeb founded their eponymous firm. Joseph Loeb also helped to found the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in a move that would set the tone for the firm’s future. Renowned movie studio Metro Goldwyn-Mayer was among the firm’s early clients, along with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Union Bank of California. While the firm was solely based in California for decades, it began expanding to other markets in 1986 and today boasts six domestic offices and two locations in Asia.
Loeb & Loeb has provided counsel to some of the world’s most recognized individuals and families, including directors Woody Allen and Hal Prince; musicians Carrie Underwood, Marvin Hamlisch and Brett Young; boxer Muhammad Ali; the Getty family; and the estates of several other high-profile celebrities, actors and musicians. With a record like that, it’s no wonder Loeb & Loeb has the run of legal Hollywood with relationships with almost every major studio in Tinseltown—including Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, DreamWorks, and MGM Studios and major industry organizations, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Country Music.
The firm’s entertainment and media practice has been repeatedly recognized as “Law Firm of the Year” in Entertainment Law by U.S. News & World Report. The firm does well for itself overall, having been recognized by Law360 as a “California Powerhouse,” included on the National Law Journal’s “Intellectual Property Hot List,” and top-ranked across a variety of practices by Chambers USA, The Legal500 United States, and The Best Lawyers in America in a variety of different practice categories.
The firm’s entertainment practice is just one of its strengths. Loeb & Loeb is counsel to Fortune 500 companies and major players like Amazon.com, Google, Visa, Toyota, NCAA, T-Mobile, Bank of America, and Warner Music Group, as well as clients ranging from emerging companies to high-net-worth individuals and families.
The firm boasts one of the largest trusts and estates practices in the nation, and its nationally recognized real estate practice represents major commercial real estate landlords and tenants, property owners and developers on both coasts, handling the full range of transactions, as well as real estate litigation and land use matters. With strong transactional and dispute resolution lawyers across a number of practice areas and industry verticals, Loeb has both depth and breadth. And, with two offices in China, Loeb also has strong Asia and International practices.
Loeb’s philosophy of “we’re all connected” translates to its pro bono work as well. The firm strives to connect to the local communities in delivering pro bono hours. Among the local organizations with which the firm partners for pro bono are the Anti-Defamation League, Alliance for Children’s Rights, Legal Aid Society, Veterans Legal Institute, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and many more.
