About Lewis Rice LLC
Lewis Rice is a full-service Midwest firm with more than 150 attorneys across six offices—five in Missouri and one just beyond the border in Kansas. Though the firm’s presence is concentrated in Missouri, Lewis Rice serves clients with local, regional, and nationwide reach.
Back to Where They Started
Lewis Rice was founded in 1909 by Joseph Lewis and Charles Rice. As the firm grew, the name plate went through a few iterations too. The firm was renamed Lewis, Rice, Tucker, Allen and Chubb in 1932, and in 1989 it changed yet again to Lewis Rice & Fingersh, this time as the result of a merger. Fast forward to 2015 and the firm returned to its roots, dropping the name of retired partner Jack Fingersh to end up where it started, as Lewis Rice.
Clients with Taste
Lewis Rice clients include individuals and businesses of all sizes, both local and nationwide. The firm draws clientele from a range of industries, including financial institutions, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, real estate brokers and developers, insurance companies, health care providers, media companies, municipalities, and service and professional firms. As a full-service firm, Lewis Rice handles almost any dispute or transaction, making it a firm that clients choose for the long haul.
Lewis Rice’s client roster is bound to make you hungry—it includes big names in the food and alcohol industry. The firm has a long-standing relationship as outside general counsel to Major Brands, a family-owned wine, spirits, and beer distributor based in Missouri—the state’s largest supplier of alcohol, in fact, thanks to the firm’s help implementing a strategic expansion plan. And for anyone who starts their day with Raisin Bran, Honey Bunches of Oats, or Shredded Wheat, you’ll be interested to know that Lewis Rice has been a long-time partner to cereal giant Post Holdings, Inc.—the firm has represented the company in all of its acquisition transactions since its spinoff from Ralcorp in 2012 and has handled additional matters related to securities, tax, real estate, IP, and antitrust. When it comes to fast food, Lewis Rice is outside general counsel to CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc.—you most likely know them for Hardee’s or Carl’s Jr.—and has navigated a broad range of legal needs for the company, including a $1.15 billion companywide securitization transaction.
Among its diversity initiatives, Lewis Rice has an especially noteworthy commitment to women. The firm’s Women to Women (LRW2W) forum is an initiative that supports women attorneys through a variety of programming, including guest speakers, panels, and a firm mentorship program. The group has also organized a number of in-home events, such as chef-prepared dinners and meet-and-greets with local women business owners. The firm also supports women in the broader community, such as through past sponsorship of the annual St. Louis Business Journal’s Women’s Conference.
