About Kutak Rock LLP
As its name suggests, Kutak Rock is a force to be reckoned with in the “rocky” Mountain States and beyond. With offices spanning from California to Washington, DC, the full-service firm is especially focused on practice areas including corporate law, public and corporate finance, real estate law, and litigation.
In 1965, Robert Kutak and Harold Rock opened the doors of Kutak Rock in Omaha with the goal of representing clients in an ever-changing regulatory landscape—at the time, this included new water and air pollution abatement requirements. For its first few years, the firm stayed local to Omaha but in the 1970s, expanded to include Denver, DC, and Atlanta. Today, the firm has more than 500 attorneys in offices across the country.
Finance, Finance, Finance
Kutak Rock certainly has a few standout areas of expertise. The firm touts finance as its core focus, and this is corroborated by the extensive variety of financial transactions on the firm’s resume. To name a few, the finance group handles deals like public securities offerings, equipment and facility financing in a variety of industries, and complex asset securitization. Numbers also show that Kutak Rock is a leader when it comes to public finance: The firm has served as bond counsel in more than 12,000 municipal bond issues comprising more than $365 billion in principal amount.
Kutak Rock’s real estate and litigation practices also stand out as areas where the firm is consistently working on resume-boosting deals and cases. In the world of real estate, Kutak Rock represents national and local clients—owners, developers, lenders, servicers, sponsors, and investors—on matters like real estate development, commercial leasing, acquisitions and dispositions, housing, and investment trusts. When it comes to disputes, the firm’s litigation practice deals in all areas: A non-exhaustive list of legal areas in which the firm has handled cases includes employment and labor law, financial institution litigation, energy and the environment, products liability and mass torts, trade secrets, real estate, securities, public finance, insurance, tax, telecommunications, construction, and white collar.
Pro Bono Rocks
Beginning with the firm’s founder, Robert Kutak, pro bono has always been an integral part of the Kutak Rock way. The firm supports groups like legal clinics, veteran groups, nonprofits, children’s organizations, and neighborhood revitalization programs. In addition to individual attorneys giving their time and talents, the Robert J. Kutak Foundation awards annual awards in conjunction with the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association. The award recognizes legal aid attorneys, public defenders, and public interest lawyers who contribute to the “enhancement of human dignity and quality of life for those individuals who are unable to afford legal representation.”
