Haynes and Boone is a different kind of law firm, and we think that’s what makes us great. We have long believed that one-size-fits-all legal services are not for us. And we don’t recommend them for our clients.
We boast a worldwide legal team made up of more than 29 percent women attorneys and 16 percent minority attorneys. We are fluent in more than 22 foreign languages. Our average age is just 42 . Our lawyers hail from 45 states in the U.S. and 26 countries around the world. While our firm was founded in Texas, today 49 percent of our lawyers come from law schools outside of Texas, with more than 163 undergraduate and 97 law schools represented. Recruiting, Retention and Diversity Initiatives
Haynes and Boone is a global institution representing the international needs of our clients. We often help navigate the complexities of diverse cultures and personalities. That is why we insist on diversity within our own ranks and have established initiatives aimed at maintaining that critical balance.
- Attorney Diversity Committee
Haynes and Boone’s Attorney Diversity Committee is made up of key members of management, senior staff and attorneys of all levels. The committee strives to reach and maintain diversity in five areas of focus at all times: Awareness, hiring, retention, promotion and leadership.
Subcommittees include Minority Attorney Initiatives, Women Attorney Initiatives, LGBT Initiatives, Pipeline Initiatives, Working Parent, Recruiting, Technology and Communications, Attorney Liaison Committee, Retention, Development and Promotion, and Business Development.
- Minority Attorney Retreat
The Biennial Minority Attorney Retreat provides a forum for the firm’s minority attorneys to openly discuss minority attorney retention and minority attorney development issues. During the two-day retreat, attendees participate in small break-out discussion groups, where they discuss ways to maintain and improve diversity at the law firm. After the break-out sessions, the attendees reconvene and share their discussions with all of the attendees. The Minority Retreat also offers attendees an opportunity to meet and get to know other minority attorneys at the law firm. Guest speakers, who are often client in-house attorneys, are also invited to the retreat to share their views on how diversity affects the practice of law.
- Women Attorney Lunches
Women attorneys at the firm have regularly scheduled Women Attorney Lunches, where they have a chance to network and discuss issues that affect women attorneys.
- Groundbreaking Recruiting Programs
Haynes and Boone’s “1L Fast Track Program” is a truly innovative recruiting program. During the second half of the summer, a group of first year law students are invited to spend a week at the firm. This ground-breaking alternative to the traditional six-week summer program provides a unique opportunity to experience Haynes and Boone’s dynamic culture and outstanding work.
- Minority Scholars Program
The Haynes and Boone Minority Scholars Program rewards four outstanding minority law students annually with a monetary scholarship to assist with law school tuition, books and living expenses. Scholars earn a 1L clerkship position with the firm and the option to return during the summer of their second year.
- Houston Bar Association Scholarship Program
Through our participation in this program we provide a summer clerkship in our Houston office to a first-year minority law student from one of the three area law schools in Houston: University of Houston, South Texas College of Law, and Texas Southern University.
