1. It's a Done Deal

Goulston & Storrs works not just in one niche practice, but across the board. We keep our clients' business goals clearly in view, and, as a result, are widely known as dealmakers.

2. Professional Growth

Our low director-associate ratio means you won't be just a backroom lawyer at Goulston & Storrs. Our Associate Development Committee monitors your professional growth by offering a wide range of opportunities, including educational seminars with directors, monthly practice area meetings and continuing legal education classes that are encouraged and paid for by the firm.

Our work allocation system is administered by two directors in each practice group to ensure your time is distributed among a diverse mix of directors, clients and projects. You'll generally stay with a project from beginning to end; experiencing not just an isolated part of a deal, but seeing how it all fits together.

3. Culture is Key

Vault has been surveying associates about firm life for 10 years now, and rarely do associates concur so completely about their firms' culture. A real estate associate explains, "Goulston is an incredibly warm and friendly place to work and there is definitely a sense of community within the firm." To which a trusts lawyer adds "People are friendly, and there is ample opportunity for socializing ... My spouse even enjoys the social activities!"

This culture permeates throughout the ranks. "The partners genuinely seem to care how associates are feeling" and "communication and dialogue at all levels are highly encouraged," from monthly meetings with associates and the managing directors to associates participation in firm operating committees.

4. High Praise

Let's hear from our associates! For the past 11 years, Goulston & Storrs has been voted one of the top firms to practice law by the leading national magazine, The American Lawyer in its annual survey of mid-level associates - and we've once again been ranked #1 in Boston in 2008.

We've also been recognized as leaders in many of our practice areas by Chambers USA - real estate, bankruptcy/restructuring, banking and finance and general commercial litigation - and we are ranked #3 nationally in the 2009 prestige ranking for our real estate practice by Vault.

5. Community Outreach/Pro Bono

When you're passionate about pro bono, you want to work at a firm that supports community outreach. Goulston & Storrs partner Herbert Ehrmann set an important precedent defending the much-maligned Sacco & Vanzetti back in the 1920's-a precedent we continue today by treating pro bono clients and work exactly the same as billable matters. Associates often don't know which clients are pro bono until after the assignment is complete. Among our many pro bono endeavors, we are general counsel to Oxfam America, Inc., Horizons for Homeless Children and YouthBuild USA.
