About Gibbons P.C.
One of New Jersey's largest firms, Gibbons is a standout in mid-Atlantic, middle-market dealings. The firm has handled high-profile corporate transactions in both the public and private sectors as well as major litigations throughout the country. Today, Gibbons primarily focuses on offering middle-market legal services to Fortune 500 clients and middle-market businesses.
A Strong Constitution
In 1926, World War I veteran and Harvard Law graduate Andrew Crummy founded a law firm in Newark and spent the firm's first decade concentrating on tax law and corporate governance and reorganization cases. Over the decades, the firm has expanded its locations and experience to become the firm now known as Gibbons. Beyond Newark, Gibbons has opened offices in New York, Philadelphia, Trenton, Wilmington, Washington, DC, and West Palm Beach.
The firm is best known for its litigation department, which previously included the man whose name carries the brand: John Gibbons. The department tackles litigation disputes in commercial, environmental, health care law, and white collar crime, among others. Gibbons was also the co-founder of the John J. Gibbons Fellowship in Public Interest and Constitutional Law, which undertakes public interest and constitutional law projects. The firm itself takes constitutional law seriously in its own work—it has partnered with the ACLU and several other advocacy groups investigating rights abuses of prisoners in Abu Ghraib and other overseas prisons. And the litigation team has an icon on board—James R. Zazzali, Of Counsel in the Commercial & Criminal Litigation Department, was one of 29 professionals to earn the 2018 Icon Award from NJBIZ.
Beyond litigation, the firm's main areas of practice include commercial and criminal litigation, corporate law, employment and labor law, environmental, financial restructuring and creditors' rights, government and regulatory affairs, intellectual property, products liability, and real property.
Add it to the Trophy Case
Gibbons’ hard work has certainly paid off, with the firm and its attorneys racking up accolades from such notables as Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, New York Metro Super Lawyers, New York Metro Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Stars, But the awards don’t stop there because when it comes to quality of life, Gibbons knows where it’s at. For 13 consecutive years, the firm has been among NJBIZ’s Best Places to Work in New Jersey. The firm also was named among the top 20 Best Small and Medium Workplaces in New York by FORTUNE and Great Place to Work®. And do-gooders will be pleased with the firm’s top 50 ranking in The American Lawyer’s 2018 pro bono survey.
