About Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC
Based in Pittsburgh, Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott provides a full spectrum of legal services from 15 offices in 11 states. The firm has the East Coast well covered, with offices in Massachusetts; New York; West Virginia; Pennsylvania; Connecticut; New Jersey; Rhode Island; Virginia; Delaware; and Washington, DC—plus a bonus outpost in Michigan.
Founded in 1958 as Eckert, Seamans & Cherin, the firm originally only served 10 clients—seven of which the firm still works with today. Since its early days, the firm has continued to operate with the goal of maintaining long-term client relationships through its “one firm” motto. In 2009—a belt-tightening time for many other law firms—Eckert went on a hiring spree, bringing on dozens of attorneys to boost its labor law and litigation departments. The decision paid off, as the firm continues to thrive in these areas and beyond.
Global Expertise in Global Industries
Eckert offers litigation, business, and regulatory experience to clients including individuals, entrepreneurial startups, nonprofits, corporations, and government agencies. To name a few, clients on the roster include Alcoa, Westinghouse, Levinson Steel, Equitable Gas, and Ford Motor Company. The firm’s main industry focuses include automotive and dealerships, education, life sciences, and transportation.
Eckert has a knack for servicing clients in industries that allow people to move around. The firm’s aviation group works with domestic and international aircraft owners and operators, airport operators, suppliers, and vendors to navigate transactions and regulatory compliance issues, and regularly represents these clients before the FAA, DOJ, and TSA. The firm also maintains an aviation blog that showcases its experience in this industry. Closer to the ground, the firm works with both local and global clients in the automotive and dealership industry. Frequent matters that arise in this area include products liability, consumer claims, retail financing, leasing, licensing, land use, insurance, and wholesale distribution.
Eckert also works with the industries that give people a reason to travel in the first place. The firm’s hospitality group represents hotels, spas, tourism companies, restaurants, entertainment venues, timeshares, condominiums, and golf courses both domestically and internationally. But travel and hospitality isn’t the only place where Eckert Seamans goes international—it also offers a complete spectrum of legal services to companies in the technology, finance, and pharmaceutical sectors operating here and abroad.
Support for Women @ Eckert
Eckert Seamans supports its female attorneys and staff through numerous efforts that comprise the firm’s Women’s Initiative @ Eckert. The Initiative supports goals including career development, increasing women in leadership roles, business development, and achieving work-life balance. Beyond mentoring and networking events (for which the firm has consistently received recognition), Eckert Seamans now holds an annual Women’s Initiative Summit at its Pittsburgh office, drawinig as many as 100 attorneys from across the firm together for a day of presentations and discussions about gender diversity and equality.
