About Bush Seyferth PLLC
Bush Seyferth PLLC is a Michigan-based litigation boutique with a nationwide reach. With about 30 attorneys on staff, the firm covers its home state from east to west, with offices located in Kalamazoo and Troy.
Now going by BSP Law, Bush Seyferth was originally founded in 2003 as BSK Law when Cheryl Bush, Patrick Seyferth, and Raymond Kethledge teamed up with the intention of building a class action, commercial litigation, and appellate powerhouse—and their vision has come to fruition. The founders themselves are indicative of the caliber of legal talent the firm employs. Among other impressive stats, Cheryl Bush has won 95.97 percent of her jury trials; Patrick Seyfarth has successfully handled high-profile class action, commercial litigation, and catastrophic product liability matters in 23 states; and Raymond Kethledge, no longer at the firm, was appointed to the Sixth Circuit bench in 2008.
Motions and Millions
BSP Law represents clients with all kinds of litigious needs—the firm’s areas of expertise include fact investigation, government cases, class actions and other complex litigation, national coordinating discovery, critical motions, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution. And the firm isn’t afraid to handle any subject matter, from construction to environmental law to advanced technology. The firm's roster of high-profile clients across industries speaks to its range: The list includes Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Accenture, Veolia, Wells Fargo Advisors, FDIC, Coca-Cola, Heinz, Prudential Insurance, Merck, Kroger, Petco, and Daimler Trucks North America.
BSP Law boasts a list of victories that covers all points on the litigation spectrum. The firm has defeated multiple class certifications in high-dollar cases, including in a putative nationwide class action seeking more than $1 billion from Volkswagen Group of America, OnStar, and other defendants, and in a construction matter with a putative class seeking more than $2 billion from the defendants. The firm is no stranger to winning on summary judgment and defending those decisions in the Federal Circuit, and it has helped clients achieve very favorable settlement agreements. But no doubt, the firm can see a case through to the end—for example, the firm recently obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of Ford Motor Company in a product liability case—and beyond, with a number of appellate victories on its resume.
New Year, New Space
In January 2020, BSP Law opened the doors of a sleek new office within the Liberty Center in Troy, Michigan. In addition to installing lots of glass to ensure an open-concept, collaborative feel, the firm also had its “tech forward” hat on during the design phase. The firm is equipped with top-of-the line technology, from video conferencing equipment to lights that automatically dim according to the level of sunlight in the room. And the firm didn’t skimp on amenities. The office includes a fully-equipped gym and locker room, a kitchen with beer on tap, and a “Tiny Human Center”—a colorful, kid-friendly space full of books and toys to keep children entertained while their parents get to work.
The pandemic has not slowed our work or growth, so BSP has remained active in recruiting during the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to our traditional methods of recruiting, we have also spent more time engaging candidates on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.). Our firm has stayed connected throughout the pandemic through videoconferencing, teleconferencing, instant message, as well as email. While our interviews are now being done over Zoom, we work hard to ensure candidates get a chance to meet with a variety of BSP attorneys and get a sense for our collegial and unique culture.
