About Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is a Denver-based law and lobbying firm. The firm’s legal practice areas include corporate and business law, energy and natural resources, gaming, intellectual property, litigation, and real estate. From its office in Washington, DC, the firm runs a government relations practice staffed with lobbyists, political consultants, and public policy professionals.

Western Trio

Brownstein was founded by three friends—Norman Brownstein, Jack Hyatt, and Steve Farber—in Denver in 1968. Decades later, Frank Schreck joined the practice, and today’s four-namesake firm became official in 2007. After years of expansion and a couple of mergers thrown into the mix, Brownstein has grown to more than 250 attorneys spread across the West, with additional offices in New Jersey and Washington, DC.

From Water to Washington

Brownstein’s areas of expertise include real estate, mergers and acquisitions, gaming and licensing, and water law. In its most aqueous area of practice, the firm has a breadth of experience both out West and nationwide. Brownstein’s water law attorneys have worked on projects such as the construction and operation of a $600 million drinking water delivery facility; the resolution of disputes related to right of way and public land water rights; and the navigation of various regulations imposed on water-focused initiatives like oceanfront remediation, wastewater treatment, and groundwater management. The practice group’s clients have included the likes of The Nature Conservancy and Nestle Waters North America.

Some of Brownstein’s most high-profile projects have been close to its Denver home, including the firm’s involvement in the construction of the Denver Broncos stadium and the development of Denver International Airport. Brownstein also has a top-ranked government relations practice in Washington, DC.  Brownstein has continuously been a Top 10 federal lobbying firm by revenue. Beyond lobbying, Brownstein’s government team works on policy development, public relations strategy, and political messaging.

Giving Back

Brownstein’s focus on four core values—"being all in,” excellence, respect, and giving back—is exemplified not only in its client work but in its community outreach efforts. The firm supports more than 500 nonprofit organizations, and more than 70 percent of Brownstein professionals sit on boards of nonprofit and civic organizations. For its recent 50th anniversary, the firm celebrated by completing more than 50 community projects nationwide, such as organizing clothing drives, fundraising for the arts, and providing meals to the homeless.
