About Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP
Alabama-based law firm Bradley Arant Boult Cummings (BABC) is a legal stronghold in the Southeastern U.S., with seven offices in four states. Its strategically located offices—in Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Washington, DC—enable the firm to serve clients on a regional, national and international level. Attorneys from the firm have represented clients like pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, country music singer Clint Black, and big banks Wachovia and Wells Fargo.
Merger of 2009
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in its current incarnation was created in 2009 after a merger between two already well-established law firms in the Southeast. Bradley Arant Rose & White, founded in Birmingham in 1871 as Hewitt & Walker, and Tennessee law firm Boult Cummings Conners & Berry PLC, founded in 1910 in Nashville, joined forces to become one of the National Law Journal’s 250 largest American firms with more than 430 lawyers combined in its firm-wide offices.
And the firm has continued to grow in recent years. Bradley Arant Boult Cummings attracts top talent, including four former Supreme Court clerks and attorneys who have been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA. The firm itself has achieved recognitions like being named American Lawyer Media’s “Go-To Law Firm” for media and technology, and placed in the top twenty of the BTI Client Relationship 100 rankings conducted by Fortune 1000 in-house counsel.
Serving the Southeast
BABC was named one of the most admired companies by the Birmingham Business Journal in 2012, and not without good reason. The firm has generously donated its time and resources to numerous causes and community service organizations in the Southeast, such as tornado relief, the Birmingham Firehouse Shelter, March of Dimes, United Way of Central Alabama, Habitat for Humanity, Mississippi Children’s Museum, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee.
The firm is also committed to pro bono work and diversity, sponsoring several diversity scholarships both within and outside its walls to high school, college, and law school students, and instituting an official policy motivating its attorneys to commit to at least 60 hours of pro bono work a year. It is the only law firm based in Alabama to be part of the American Bar Association’s Law Firm Pro Bono project.
Dedication to Death Row
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings was unanimously selected to receive an Exceptional Service Award from the American Bar Association for its involvement in the ABA’s Death Penalty Representation Project for over 20 years. Since 1988, the firm has represented 22 death row inmates, 19 of which were from Alabama, and spent over 1000 hours on cases for convicted murderers in later stages of their sentences with no right to appointed legal representation and counsel.
