Who We Are

The founding vision of Barack Ferrazzano in 1984 was to create a new model that departed from the standard "mega-firm" approaches and, instead, focused on delivering efficient, team-oriented services of the highest quality. Our founding partners - two highly respected law professors at Northwestern University and two former members of a prominent Chicago firm - were soon joined by like-minded colleagues also seeking an alternative to the large law firm environment. We have grown steadily ever since.

Barack Ferrazzano is not structured to be all things to all clients. However, the high levels of internal flexibility and extraordinary talent within our organization allow us to craft unusually practical and economical solutions to match client challenges and needs. This business-oriented approach has led many clients to engage Barack Ferrazzano to handle complex, time-sensitive, and high-stakes matters. Our reputation is based on our people and the results they achieve. The attorneys we select - many from the country's most renowned law firms and top U.S. law schools - leverage the environment we have created to become some of the finest lawyers available today.

Pro Bono

Since the firm’s founding in 1984, Barack Ferrazzano has encouraged its members to contribute to pro bono legal efforts. Our Pro Bono Committee defines goals for the program and identifies pro bono opportunities for professionals and staff.

The firm is affiliated with several pro bono non-profit organizations, including the Public Interest Law Initiative (one of our partners is a member of the Board of Directors). Barack Ferrazzano also is a charter member of The Chicago Bar Foundation Law Firm Leadership Circle, which is dedicated to supporting pro bono legal assistance to those in need.

Diversity is a core value of Barack Ferrazzano, and the firm is committed to diversity in the broadest sense of the word. Diversity fosters an atmosphere in which a variety of ideas can be fully examined and tested, ultimately producing the best results for our clients. We actively recruit talented professionals and staff based on commitment to personal and professional excellence, and we welcome people of different backgrounds and perspectives. This commitment to diversity and fostering a welcoming culture attracts the most qualified candidates to the firm and creates a rewarding and fulfilling environment for our people. The firm’s Diversity Committee oversees and facilitates these efforts, often working closely with the Women’s Committee.

The firm actively recruits women and members of minority racial, ethnic, and religious communities for professional and staff positions. The firm is also committed to supporting historically underrepresented communities in the legal profession at-large. The firm is an active member of the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms, which serves as yet another example of the firm’s ability to compete at the very top of the legal profession while maintaining a size consistent with its culture. The firm was honored as "Corporate Partner of the Year" by the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and is a signatory to the Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women’s "Call to Action."  Barack Ferrazzano has been recognized as one of ten signatory firms with the highest percentages of women partners.

Every June, the firm hosts a half-day Diversity Seminar for its attorneys and clients. Past seminars have incorporated  a variety of approaches to broaden understanding of diversity issues with thought-provoking and interactive programming presented by nationally recognized diversity experts.

The firm also participates annually in the Cook County Bar Association’s Minority Law Student Job Fair, which attracts talented minority law school students from across the country. The firm’s involvement in these efforts includes significant financial and non-financial support to underrepresented communities, while also advancing the firm’s mission of furthering access to legal assistance, information, and representation for all.
