About Ball Janik LLP
Founded on July 1, 1982 in Portland, Oregon, Ball Janik focuses on real estate, land use, litigation and bankruptcy, helping to build the unique landscape and culture that is Portland. The firm was founded by six lawyers and a four-person support staff whose primary focus was high quality professional work and honoring clients’ objectives and the firm has stayed true to this mantra.
Although rooted in the Pacific Northwest, the Ball Janik expanded across the nation, setting up offices in Salt Lake City, Utah and Orlando, Florida—not only increasing its geographical footprint, but bolstering its offered legal services as well. Ball Janik attorneys in the Sunshine State specialize in creditor rights and fiduciary disputes, construction litigation, real estate litigation, and insurance recovery; the Salt Lake City office focuses more on general counsel and collection services for community associations, real estate, construction and construction defect litigation, general business, contract disputes, financial services, commercial litigation, and insurance recovery including bad-faith litigation.
Because of the firm’s wide range of practice, clients include large and small businesses, state, municipal and local governments, associations and coalitions, schools and universities, and individuals. Ball Janik has stayed true to its two principles of performing high quality professional work that advances the interest of clients, and cultivating a firm culture that ensures its professionals and staff will deliver on that promise. In 2014, Ball Janik was ranked as Oregon’s Most Admired Company by the Portland Business Journal and was top ranked by Chambers USA in 2014 and 2015.
Ball Janik’s emphasis on diversity is evident in its continuous actions, such as the firm’s sponsorship of activities for Opportunities for Law in Oregon, a program that recruits and retains minority law students in Oregon. The firm also takes great pride in its female lawyers and encourages all attorneys to participate in groups like Oregon Women Lawyers, Cascade Women Lawyers, Commercial Real Estate Women and Queen’s Bench. Other diversity initiatives include Ball Janik’s early adaptation of offering opposite sex and same sex domestic partner benefits to all lawyers and employees, putting it at the forefront of social action for Oregon based law firms.
