About Armstrong Teasdale LLP

Armstrong Teasdale is a full-service firm focused on providing excellent client service—which it refers to as “Client CultivATion.” The firm boasts more than 340 attorneys in 13 locations who represent Fortune 100 and 500 companies as well as mid-sized and individual clients.

St. Louis and Beyond

Armstrong Teasdale was founded in 1901 by St. Louis-based business lawyers Thomas Harper Cobbs and John E. Bishop. The firm remained a one-office shop in St. Louis until 1989, when it established a presence in Kansas City through a merger. The firm expanded beyond Missouri state lines when it opened its Las Vegas office in 2005, and since then, it has opened multiple offices from the Southwest to the East Coast—and most recently, the firm established an international presence when it opened a London office in 2021. Since 2010, the firm has maintained a spot on the Am Law 200 list.

Big Names

Armstrong Teasdale is a full-service firm offering expertise in antitrust, class actions and complex litigation, cooperative and condominium law, intellectual property, emerging companies, insurance, cannabis, medical malpractice, mergers and acquisitions, labor and employment, government relations and public policy, white collar and investigations, securities, tax law, and more. The firm’s New York office, which opened in 2019, heavily focuses on cooperative and condominium law. The practice group acts as general counsel for about 400 clients in New York City and the metropolitan area, and clients range from large building complexes to Mitchell-Lama cooperatives and Housing Development Fund cooperatives to individual owners and shareholders. The firm has helped develop New York law in this area, including implementation of contracts of sale, alteration agreements, and other agreements that are now standard in the industry.

Armstrong Teasdale is also known for its strong IP practice group, which handles copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, litigation, and post-grant and inter partes review. The group employs experts in areas such as chemical, biotechnology, electrical, and mechanical technologies, and it supports clients including inventors, manufacturers, universities, private equity firms, musicians, major multinationals, and others. Among its victories includes a well-known win on behalf of Ralcorp Holdings in a trademark and patent case against Frito-Lay involving bowl-shaped tortilla chips. To be sure, the firm’s high-profile repertoire extends across all practice areas: Other achievements have included successfully defending Alphonso Jackson, who served as HUD Secretary, in a DOJ investigation; and achieving the then-largest defense verdict in Missouri for client Missouri Gas Company.

A Diverse Supply

Armstrong Teasdale takes diversity seriously, and one of the ways it does so is through vendor diversity. The firm has worked to build relationships with minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and LGBTQ-owned suppliers, and it encourages suppliers to seek out certifications from organizations such as the Small Business Administration (SBA), the National Minority Business Council (NMBC), the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). The firm monitors annual spend to ensure that purchasing decisions take diversity into account.
