About Travelers

Travelers was founded in 1864 by James G. Batterson, who served as the company’s president until his death in 1901. The first product Travelers offered was accident insurance, which was followed by the additions of workers compensation and auto insurance in 1889 and 1897, respectively. Interestingly, Travelers issued accident insurance policies for the space program, including for space flight and lunar exploration, beginning in 1969. Today, Travelers’ headquarters is located in New York City.

Travelers offers a variety of insurance products and services, including vehicle insurance, homeowner’s insurance, renter’s insurance, pet insurance, and jewelry and valuable item insurance. Those looking to start a career with Travelers will find opportunities in claims, sales and underwriting, corporate, and more. Many of its departments help employees develop their skills through online certification courses, virtual and hands-on training seminars, and team collaboration.

Travelers partners with The Hole in the Wall Gang, which was founded in 1988. The Hole in the Wall Gang is a summer camp program for children suffering with cancer and other illnesses, and its goal is to provide them with a sense of normalcy.  Since 2007, Travelers has donated more than $2 million to The Hole in the Wall Gang. In 2008, Travelers funded the construction of a universally accessible mini-golf course at the camp. The company also encourages its employees to volunteer at the camp by helping prepare the grounds, as well as maintaining the cabins and other facilities.
