About the Company

Marsh and McLennan was founded by Henry W. Marsh and Donald R. McLennan in 1905. It made its first acquisition in 1923 with the reinsurance firm Guy Carpenter & Company, and a series of key acquisitions followed, allowing Marsh and McLennan to reorganize itself as a holding company. In the late 1990s, Marsh and McLennan acquired Johnson & Higgins, making it the world’s largest insurance broker at the time. Marsh and McLennan’s corporate headquarters is located in New York City.
