About Fletcher Allen Health Ventures, Inc.

The University Of Vermont Medical Center (formerly Fletcher Allen Health Care) provides medical care in the Green Mountain State. The company operates an academic medical center in alliance with the University of Vermont. The not-for-profit health system serves residents of Vermont and northern New York through three primary hospital campuses and more than 130 outpatient clinics, patient care sites, and outreach programs. Its acute care medical centers have a combined 560-bed capacity and a medical staff of some 800 health care providers representing medical specializations including emergency/trauma care, pediatrics, and women's health. The health care system is a subsidiary of Fletcher Allen Partners.

The health system receives some 60,000 emergency visits each year, and its hospitals handle more than 50,000 inpatient and outpatient visits per year, as well as 2,000 births.

Working with the University of Vermont's College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, The University Of Vermont Medical Center helps connect bedside experience with medical research to improve overall quality of care. It also provides hands-on educational services for medical and nursing students, as well as professionals undergoing specialty training.

Geographic Reach

The University Of Vermont Medical Center serves 160,000 people who live in Vermont's Chittenden and Grand Isle counties.

Financial Performance

The company's revenues accounted for 68% of Fletcher Allen Partners' total revenues in 2014.

In order to provide a cohesive health network in the region, the health system is working to create an integrated care network in its service territory. It is also working to build out its IT and data management capabilities

The University of Vermont Medical Center also has affiliations with other area providers to increase referrals and cooperative care, including Alice Hyde Medical Center, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Moses Ludington Hospital, Central Vermont Medical Center, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, and the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. It seeks to form new partnerships with additional facilities.

In 2015 the company changed its name from Fletcher Allen Health Care to The University of Vermont Medical Center, as part of a branding strategy approved by the Fletcher Allen Partners and University of Vermont boards.

Company Background

The hospital system was created through the 1995 merger of the Fanny Allen Hospital (which opened in 1894), the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont (or Mary Fletcher Hospital, founded in 1876), and the University Health Center (formed in 1971). The hospitals are now known as Fanny Allen Campus, Medical Center Campus, and UHC Campus.

Fletcher Allen Health Care completed the implementation of an electronic health records (EHR) system that connects patient records at all of its facilities in 2010.
