Soros Fund Management is one of the largest hedge fund firms in the world, with approximately $28 billion under management. It is also one of the most profitable hedge fund firms, having earned more than $32 billion since 1973, according to HFMWeek. Soros Fund Management's main series of hedge funds are called the Quantum Group of Funds. The firm invests in a variety of vehicles, including public equities and debt, foreign exchange, currencies and commodities, and private equity and venture capital opportunities. Soros Fund Management was founded in 1969 by billionaire investing guru (and author) George Soros, who was born in Budapest in 1930, has written numerous books on finance (The Crash of 2008 and What It Means, The Age of Fallability, The Bubble of American Supremacy, George Soros on Globalization, and Soros on Soros, among others), and who is still acting chairman of the firm.
