4 out of 5 Stars
Shared sense of mission; easy to find work that has real-world impact and feels significant; easy to move around within DoD agencies in order to gain different work experience. Good job stability, great benefits, lots of very dedicated colleagues. Opportunity for overseas postings.Downers
Pay limitations (federal government pay scale) and occasional pay uncertainty with recent sequestration and furlough experience. Despite having lots of very dedicated personnel, some are retired-in-place (not working particularly hard). You have to have, or develop, a high tolerance for working in a large bureaucracy. If you develop that skill, you can have amazing experiences and do incredibly satisfying work.Advice to Candidates
If you want to serve your country and feel like you're making a difference, and if you're willing to learn how to navigate very large bureaucracies with relatively rigid rules, then this is a great choice.
