About Jockey International, Inc.

Jockey International has nothing to do with horses and everything to do with the classic men's brief (its invention). The over 140-year-old company makes men's, women's, and children's underwear and loungewear. Its products are sold in major department and specialty stores. Jockey licenses and distributes its apparel in more than 145 countries and holds several licensing agreements. Chairman and CEO Debra Waller and her family own the company. Cooper & Sons, the predecessor of Jockey, was founded by Samuel Cooper in 1876 as a hosiery company intended to relieve lumberjacks of blisters and infections resulting from shoddy wool socks.

Operations

Jockey markets the only phase change technology in the underwear category, provides sport underwear that is clinically proven to outperform competing products, and recently launched a bra collection based on a unique sizing technology which is protected by over 50 patents.

Geographic Reach

Headquartered in Wisconsin, Jockey has dominant market positions in partner countries like India, South Africa, and Australia/New Zealand, and also has operations in Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, New York, and North Carolina. The company operates over 100 retail outlet stores in the US.

Sales and Marketing

Jockey is the leading undergarment brand in the US department store channel with major customers including Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Belk, JCPenney, and Kohl's. In addition to its over 1,600 associates around the world, the company has expanded distribution through related brands in Target and Wal-Mart. Jockey's brand products are sold globally across a network of distributor and licensee partners and sells directly in Canada and Europe, along with a robust catalog and e-commerce business under its Direct to Consumer unit in the US.

Strategy

In early-2020, it launched its first-ever blended size collection for women with TrueFit Promise. The inclusive range of underwear bottoms and a camisole feature only two universal sizes that are designed to fit and flatter, small – 2XL. The TrueFit Promise collection not only fits a range of body types but looks and feels good, too. Featuring a sleek, clean aesthetic, these innovative designs are crafted with a stretchy, lightweight microfiber fabric and no elastic which allows for amazing stretch and recover with every wear. Refined silhouettes include a hipster, modern brief, thong and camisole for all-day comfort with smooth, lay flat, no-show edges.
