About Wells Enterprises, Inc.

You scream, I scream, we all scream for Wells Enterprises. The family-owned and -operated manufacturer is best known for its Blue Bunny brand of ice cream and frozen novelties, including chilly Cow and Blue Ribbon Classics, Halo top, and the Fourth of July favorite, red-white-and-blue Bomb Pop. It sells the lineup nationwide through grocery stores, convenience store, and restaurants. A foodservice division supplies dairy desserts to restaurants, schools, commercial business and healthcare. Wells has a retail presence, too, through the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor.

Wells focuses solely on producing ice cream and frozen dessert products. The company churns out more than 150 million gallons of ice cream a year in more than 110 Blue Bunny flavors and lays claim to distributing ice cream and frozen novelty products throughout all 50 US states.

Geographic Reach

From its headquarters in Le Mars, Iowa, Wells Enterprises directs additional operations, such as its pair of production plants. It also operate regional offices in Arkansas, and Chicago.

Sales and Marketing

Wells sells its products through grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, ice cream trucks, and online.

Wells is continuously adapting to a changing industry—and times—while staying true to what its founders started in 1913. For its customers, Wells consistently provides the best quality, flavor, and experience possible. Wells' ice cream manufacturing plants have earned a level-3 certification, the highest, from the Safe Quality Food Institute. Furthermore, Wells' Blue Bunny Ice Cream brand has grown to include multiple brands and licensed products.

Wells has continued to expand its portfolio in 2019 through the purchase agreement with Eden Creamery, LLC, where Wells acquired the Halo Top brand. This purchase expanded Wells' current portfolio to five distinct brands and provides consumers even more access to their favorite products. Another acquisition Wells made in 2019 was of Fieldbrook Foods in Dunkirk, New York, from Arbor Investments. The purchase expanded Wells' current manufacturing capacity and diversified its ability to support customers geographically, helping meet future demand and adds an important footprint on the East Coast.

In addition to expanding its portfolio, Wells also purchased an ice cream manufacturing plant from Unilever in late 2019. The plant is located in Henderson, Nevada. The purchase expanded Wells' current manufacturing capacity and diversify its ability to support customers geographically to help meet future demand and adds an important footprint in the West.

Mergers and Acquisitions

In early 2019, Wells acquired New York-based, Fieldbrook Foods a leading U.S. ice cream producer from Arbor Investments for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition helps Wells to serve more clients by expanding its geographically diverse footprint.

Company Background

Founded as a small-town dairy in 1913 by the late Fred H. Wells with $250, the company has grown through acquisitions to achieve a national presence in the US. In 2011 the ice cream maker changed its name from Wells' Dairy to Wells Enterprises as it expanded the Blue Bunny ice cream brand.
