About Pepsico

PepsiCo began with two great American snack companies: Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay. In 1965, the CEOs Donald Kendall and Herman Lay saw what they called “a marriage made in heaven.” The companies merged, creating PepsiCo. PepsiCo’s main brands include Frito-Lay, Gatorade, Pepsi-Cola, Quaker, Tropicana, and SodaStream. Twenty-three of the company's brands generate more than $1 billion in annual retail sales. PepsiCo has seven divisions: PepsiCo Beverages North America, Frito-Lay North America, Quaker Foods North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa Middle East South Asia (AMESA), and Asia Pacific Australia/New Zealand China (APAC). Quaker joined PepsiCo in 2001, expanding PepsiCo’s product offerings greatly. The international divisions of the company allow for global reach to nearly every continent.

Some of the first ventures in flavor innovation of the modern PepsiCo were Doritos in 1966, Tostitos in 1981, an acquisition of Aquafina in 1992, Sierra Mist in 2003, and Bubly Sparkling Water in 2018. Its commitment to creating and providing great food goes far past just snacks. Other PepsiCo innovations include the Pepsi Spire, a digital fountain drink machine that allows customers to customize their drink with hundreds of different options. Hello Goodness is PepsiCo’s signature vending machine that specializes in healthier snack options; there are 40,000 units currently in the market. These two inventive Pepsi products do much more than provide a place to buy the company’s food and beverages, they provide a whole new food experience.

Much of PepsiCo’s recent success has been thanks to CEO Indra Nooyi. Nooyi drives the company forward by focusing it on design thinking. “As CEO,” says Nooyi, “I visit a market every week to see what we look like on shelves.” She’s engaged, passionate, and never complacent. Her active leadership as CEO has allowed PepsiCo not only to maintain its customer base, but achieve further success. “Ideally,” she says, “design leads to innovation and innovation demands design. We’re just getting started.”
