About Mike's Hard Lemonade

Mike’s Hard Lemonade was created by alcohol and spirit genius Anthony von Mandl. Launched in 1999, the beverage proved itself wildly successful right from the start. The brand finds home at von Mandl’s brewing company Mark Anthony Brewing. It is the fourth largest brewing company in the United States. Mike’s Hard Lemonade was the first of a new kind of alcoholic beverage: Flavored Malt Beverages (FMBs). According to von Mandl, “up to 25% of guys didn’t particularly want to drink beer, but couldn’t be seen holding anything else in their hand.” Mike’s was the perfect solution. It is a tasty, simple lemonade drink that you can bring to a party and still be a hit.

The product has been a major success mainly because of its unique and delicious flavor. Without any true marketing plan or any legitimate advertisement funding, Mike’s Hard Lemonade sold its first 10 million cases. Today, the brand includes the original lemonade flavors as well as Lite versions and Mike’s Margaritas. Since its founding in 1999, Mike’s Hard Lemonade has remained privately owned. The brand is produced out of the Mark Anthony Brewing facilities in Chicago, IL, Glendale, AZ, Hillside, NJ, and Columbia, SC. Mike’s Hard Lemonade is a clear example of a product that is special, that will continue to be consumed by markets because it truly is that good. It’s vision for creating a tastier beer alternative has allowed it to remain a leading beverage among its competitors. “Flavor is a trend that will only accelerate,” says von Mandl, “New consumers entering the legal drinking years will continuously seek variety and innovation from their beverage choices, and no segment can offer variety and convenience like FMBs.”
