Sales and Marketing
To sustain its export sales, Johnsonville tailors its sausage to fit national tastes. For example, in Canada, the company's bratwursts are flavored with honey and garlic. In Mexico its meats are made extra spicy. And in Asian markets, it's sold based on its popular cooking style and flavors. Furthermore, it caters to more than 140 professional, college and semi-pro sports stadiums throughout the US.
In September 2020, Johnsonville, LLC has purchased the 200,000 square-foot facility that has been the manufacturing hub for sock maker Wigwam Mills in Sheboygan. Johnsonville will use the additional space to expand its cooking innovations and produce more of its fully cooked sausage products. This segment of the business has seen strong growth over the last few years, exceeding Johnsonville's current manufacturing capacity on its main campus in Sheboygan Falls.
Johnsonville will lease back the building to Wigwam through the end of 2020, as Wigwam relocates its headquarters, manufacturing and outlet store to a leased space in the former Franzen Graphics facility along highway 42 on Sheboygan's northside. In 2021, Johnsonville plans to start construction to adapt the building for sausage manufacturing and expects to begin operations in early 2022.
To further boost growth, Johnsonville is now offering foodservice operators the chance to grow their breakfast sales with the launch of its first-ever, premium breakfast sausage lineup designed specifically for the foodservice industry. It is the company's goal for foodservice operators who add Johnsonville their menu can yield wide consumer appeal while creating a powerful point of difference in the competitive breakfast market segment. It believes that brand recognition can help operators improve their breakfast traffic and their sales.
Mergers and Acquisitions
In mid-2020, the company acquires PrimaBaguz, a manufacturer of premium HALAL frozen meat based products headquartered in Malaysia. The acquisition cost is $41.9 million. This acquisition will help Johnsonville Sausage to expand its footprint in south-east Asia.
