You might hate paying the electric bill, but National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) doesn't. The cooperative provides billing software and data processing services to more than 700 telephone companies, electric co-ops, and other public power entities in 48 US states, Canada, and two territories (Palau and American Samoa). Its iVUE software automates administrative and operational functions related to accounting, e-commerce, billing, customer service, and engineering. It also provides such services as automated mailroom support, technical support, and meeting facilities rental.
More than 5 million consumers receive utility or telecommunications services from companies utilizing NISC's advanced information technology systems. It bills more than 8 million end user subscribers/meters and processes more than $12 billion in annual Member/Customer utility billings. NISC's payroll products calculate and track an annual payroll in excess of $1 billion for more than 27,000 professionals employed by NISC's Members/Customers.
As a co-op, NISC is led by an executive committee made up of representatives from participating electricity and telecommunications organizations
NISC has offices in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; Mandan, North Dakota; and Shawano, Wisconsin.
Building on the iVUE Enterprise System, NISC's broad, scalable suite of accounting, customer care and billing, and engineering and operations products, in 2014 NISC released SmartHub Order Management and Broadband Measured Service.
In 2014 Sandhill Telephone Cooperative chose NISC as its IT partner. Also that year, Inland Power and Light Company selected National NISC as its primary provider of software services to support its operational and member service efforts.
In 2011 the company added its Cedar Rapids office through the purchase of Quintrex Data Systems Corp., another billing software company. Quintrex served 60 small market and rural telecom companies in 20 states and Canada. The Wisconsin office came in 2010 when NISC bought Computer Systems LLC, a data processing co-op with about 50 telecom customers.
NISC formed in 2000 from the merger of the Central Area Data Processing Cooperative and the North Central Data Cooperative.
