Change in Company Type
In late 2014, Attachmate was bought by UK-based Micro Focus International in a deal valued at $1.2 billion. As does Attachmate, Micro Focus serves companies with legacy computer systems, particularly those running the Cobol software language. The combined company, in which Attachmate operates as a subsidiary, should have a more comprehensive set of offerings for customers.
Attachmate software runs on 19 million desktops and mobile devices-across industries ranging from financial services, healthcare, and government to retail, travel, and manufacturing.
In addition to its legacy business of terminal emulation and mainframe management products, the company offers industry-specific applications for industries such as airlines and travel, where its products are used to link multiple sources for tasks including reservations and flight booking. It also offers software that integrates the current generation of customer relationship (CRM) management software with legacy systems used by corporate customer service call centers.
Attachmate has 40 offices doing business in 145 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the US.
