OUP USA produces approximately 250 scholarly research publications each year, as well as trade, textbooks, and professional titles. Strategy
Despite its history of more than 500 years, Oxford University Press has embraced modern technology as a way to impart information. Over the last few years, the company has undertaken a series of ambitious investments to position the Press for the transition to digital publishing and to take advantage of the opportunities. In 2012 it invested significantly in the academic publishing including the American Historical Review, the journal of the American Historical Association; developed innovative new online platforms such as University Press Scholarship Online; and introduced new business models including the advertising and subscriber based Oxford Dictionaries Online site.
It plans to launch a number of exciting new digital products and platforms in our academic and educational operations to further extending the range of its publishing and global reach.
Company Background
The US publishing unit was launched in 1896 (the UK press traces its roots to the first book printed at Oxford in 1478). The first edition of the venerable Oxford English Dictionary (OED) was published in 1928 and its second edition in 1989.
