About Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Inc.

Indiana is home to James Dean, David Letterman, and Michael Jackson, as well as Toyota, which picked the southern part of the Hoosier state as home to Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI), one of its biggest vehicle manufacturing facilities. After parent Toyota invested $450 million to upgrade the plant, the company opened a visitor's center that offers public tram tours of its 4 million-sq.-ft. production floor. TMMI produces the full-size Sequoia SUV, the Highlander mid-size SUV, and the Sienna minivan (the production of which was moved from Kentucky) for one of Toyota's largest markets -- the US. The plant began operations in 1996.

Parent Toyota is on a push to expand its US production as demand continues to grow. As part of a plan to meet US SUV demand, and eventually export to Russia and Australia, TMMI is getting a $131 million infusion to increase production of the gas Highlander and add a hybrid version of the mid-size SUV.
