With roots as a Depression-era sawmill, Roseburg Forest Products has branched out as a diverse producer and marketer of wood products. Formed in 1936, the company produces specialty panels (melamine, particleboard, and vinyl laminates), engineered wood products (joists, beams, and rimboards), and plywood products such as siding and concrete forming. Its products are available through dealers, home centers, and wholesale distributors. Roseburg manages more than 640,000 acres of timberland in California and Oregon. Heirs of philanthropist Kenneth Ford, who established the Ford Family Foundation, own and lead the company.
In addition to its wood products business, Roseburg operates two subsidaries: the Coos Bay Shipping Terminal, a "bulk and breakbulk" cargo handling terminal in Coos Bay, Oregon that exports softwood and hardwood chips to Japan; and Roseburg Resources, a grower and seller of timber.
Based in Dillard, Oregon, Roseburg has a regional office in Atlanta, Georgia. It operates a dozen manufacturing plants in six states: Oregon, Montana, Mississippi, Georgia, California, and Louisiana. It owns timberland in southern Oregon and California.
Sales and Marketing
Roseburg sells its wood products nationwide through a variety of channels, including wholesale distributors, dealers, national home centers, retail distribution partners, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), custom laminators, and panelizers. Customers include manufacturers, fabricators, builders and contractors, specifiers and designers, and homeowners.
The company sells its products under brand names such as RFPI, RigidLam, SuperPly, RediPly, Ultrablend, and Duramine. It ships its wood products around the US and it operates an export terminal in North Bend, Oregon. Roseburg is a leading exporter of Douglas fir wood chips to Japan.
With the US economy and the housing market on the mend, demand for building products is rising. To meet demand, in 2013 Roseburg is investing in its sawmill in Dillard, Oregon to use a broader range of fiber in its manufacturing process. It also launched several new products in 2012 including PourMor branded concrete forming plywood panels, Roseburg Radiant Barrier sheathing for use on roofs and walls, and a new line of Deep Depth, Roseburg RFPI I-joists used in floor and roof construction.
