About Interfor U.S. Inc.

Interfor Corporation operates about a dozen sawmills and a remanufacturing site in Canada, the US Pacific Northwest, and Georgia. Most of the land on which the company harvests timber is owned by British Columbia. Interfor Corporation makes lumber for the construction market, logs for industrial processing, and wood chips for pulp production. The company also owns stakes in transportation businesses that distribute its products: the majority-owned Seaboard Shipping and its wholly owned short-line railroads in Canada.

Geographic Reach

Interfor has operations in British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, including two sawmills in the Coastal region of British Columbia, three in interior British Columbia, two in Washington, and two in Oregon. In 2013 it added three sawmills in Georgia.

Seeking to add capacity in regional markets, Interfor in 2013 acquired the assets of Florida-based Rayonier Inc.'s Wood Products business for $80 million. The purchase, which includes three sawmills in central Georgia, brings Interfor's annual capacity to more than 2 billion board feet and marks the company's first investment in the Southeast. Soon after, the company inked a deal to acquire the assets of Keadle Lumber Enterprises, based in Thomaston, Georgia, some 75 miles from Interfor's 2013 acquired mill in Eatonton, Georgia.
