Under the Growmark FS name, it offers a host of plant food and crop protection products, as well as biotechnology services and training and agricultural marketing and consulting. The company also operates a full-line seed company, Seedway, and provides grain facility planning and grain marketing services. Lastly, GROWMARK's energy offers a complete line of refined and renewable fuels, lubricants and propane to member cooperatives and retail energy distributors, including winterized fuels, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), biodiesel and bioblends.

Operations

GROWMARK delivers high quality agronomy and energy products, as well as premium services from expert advisors. Its long-term relationships with manufacturers and refiners, coupled with the company's extensive terminal network, means GROWMARK has access to a broad and reliable supply of fertilizers, fuel, and propane. The company also offers private label crop protection products and proprietary brands of corn and soybean seeds.

In addition, GROWMARK also provides grain marketing services through its subsidiary, MID-CO COMMODITIES, and has partnership with COFCO International. Its commercial construction provides equipment, facilities, and services that improve the operating efficiency of the company's customers. It is equipped to provide system consultations through complete turnkey construction services, such as consultation, development, planning, construction and operation. GROWMARK logistics includes brokerage services specializing in transporting and storing liquid fuel, propane, anhydrous ammonia, bulk and packaged motor oils, and crop inputs including seed, liquid and dry fertilizer and bulk and packaged crop protection products, while its Electronic Payments Network currently processes and settles more than 9.7 million transactions and approximately $500 million annually. The company keeps pace with regulatory and market demands for bank cards, fleet cards, DEBIT cards, gift cards, ACH/electronic check conversion, and PC/web-based payments. Lastly, GROWMARK Agronomy Equipment has national account relationships with John Deere, Case IH, AGCO, and Caterpillar to provide its customers with competitive pricing and service from local dealer on application equipment, tractors, loaders, construction equipment, and small equipment.

GROWMARK's high performing product lines include proprietary brands FS InVISION, FS HiSOY, FS Wheat, FS Alfalfa, as well as distribution agreements with DEKALB, Asgrow, and NK.

Strategy

GROWMARK, Inc. and Southern States Cooperative announced, in September 2020, plans to close on a transaction that aligns the organizations operationally to yield increased innovation, growth, and returns for the farmer-owners of both cooperative systems.

GROWMARK will assume the wholesale agronomy and energy (fuels and propane) assets of Southern States, along with several retail locations serving farmers in Delaware and Maryland. GROWMARK will provide crop inputs, fuels, propane, and a variety of customer support and marketing services to Southern States and its member cooperatives. They, in turn, will continue to deliver custom solutions with access to GROWMARK's product mix, distribution expertise, and drive for innovation.

GROWMARK's vision is to be the best agricultural cooperative system in North America, and this partnership enables both organizations to further that goal together. It is committed to delivering an unsurpassed customer experience to the patrons it serves across North America. The cooperative model is uniquely positioned to deliver that, so this combination of efforts is great news for farmers invested in the cooperative organizations.

Company Background

GROWMARK traces its history back to 1920 and the establishment of local cooperatives by Farm Bureau members. One of those cooperatives, Farm Bureau Service Company of Iowa, in the early 1960s merged with Illinois Farm Supply Company (founded in 1927) to form the foundation of what is today GROWMARK. The GROWMARK name started being used in 1980.
