About General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) knows that some aircraft are better off without human pilots. The company is a designer and manufacturer of remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) with names like Predator, Lynx, Avenger, and Gray Eagle, as well as airborne intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance (ISR) sensor systems, including the Lynx multi-mode radar and the Highlighter sensor for detecting improvised explosive devices. It also manufactures a variety of state-of-the-art digital GCS, including the Portable Aircraft Control Station, and provides pilot training and support services for RPA field operations.

GA-ASI also integrates other sensor and communication equipment into manned ISR aircraft and develops emerging technologies in electro-optical sensors, and Foliage Penetration/ 3D mapping.

Strategy

GA-ASI opened a new customer service center in Dresden, Germany. The center provides sustainment capabilities for MQ-9 fleets in and near Europe, providing customer convenience and expanding opportunities for European aerospace suppliers.

GA-ASI wants to build on its industrial collaboration efforts in the Republic of Korea (ROK). It has been active in exploring supply chain and research opportunities in ROK since 2017, with collaborative Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with Huneed Technologies Co. Ltd. (Huneed) and Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). In September 2020, GA-ASI executed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with Korea Jig & Fixture (KJF). GA-ASI hopes to collaborate with KJF on future manufacture of support equipment.

Mergers and Acquisitions

In mid-2020, GA-ASI acquired a majority of the assets of IJK Controls, including facilities and all Intellectual Property for an undisclosed amount. IJK Controls is a Pasadena, California-based provider of innovative solutions for stabilization, pointing and tracking of cameras, sensors and antennas. The addition of IJK to GA-ASI adds critical capabilities in the development of Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) and Radio Frequency (RF) gimbaled and turret-based systems for advanced airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), communications and weapons.
