Summer associate recruiting season has begun! Whether you're participating in OCI, EIP, EIW, or a career fair, chances are that your schedule is filled with interviews, networking events, and —hopefully—callbacks. As with any interview, it is critical that you prepare for your law firm interviews and learn about the kind of work each firm does and what sets the firms apart.

Finding the ideal firm requires a lot of research—both on the firms and on how to navigate the recruiting process and associate life—which is why Vault has compiled a comprehensive guide to assist law students and laterals in their searches: Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms.

We are excited to release the 2020 edition of the guide today. Our team has worked hard to provide a one-stop resource for your interviewing needs, including the below content:

In-Depth Articles on Landing a Law Firm Gig and Navigating Firm Life

Not only is law firm recruiting highly competitive, but the interview process is probably like nothing you have ever experienced. Not to mention, you are building your career, so it is important to consider which practices, regions, and types of firms will best suit your goals.

This section provides various interviews and advice articles from industry experts to help you better understand legal recruiting and the law firm world. You will also find several “Day in the Life” pieces from real associates at top-ranked law firms, so that you can understand what their day-to-day entails.

Vault Law Firm Rankings

This year, nearly 20,000 law firm associates participated in Vault’s Annual Associate Survey. From those survey responses, Vault produced dozens of law firm rankings. Within the guide, you will find Vault’s 2020 Vault Law 100 (our prestige ranking), Practice Area rankings, Regional rankings, Quality of Life rankings, Diversity rankings, and Summer Associate Program rankings.

Law Firm Profiles

As part of the survey, we ask associates to rate their firms on various aspects of quality of life. We also ask associates to comment on their experiences working at their firms. Our editorial team then reviews every associate comment and chooses those that best reflect the general tenor of feedback for each firm.

In addition, we work with law firms to update their firm statistics and collect news items and awards the firm has received.

With all of this information, we create a law firm profile to provide jobseekers with an in-depth view of the firm that includes its rankings, firm stats, and insider insights. The profiles within the guide include stats such as salary, firm contact information, summer associate data, practice areas, and locations. They also feature recent firm news, awards, and notable cases. And you will find quotes from real associates relating to a host of topics, including the hiring process, firm culture, quality of work, hours, associate/partner relations, diversity, and more.

Our profiles give you insider access so that you can gain a better sense of what it is like to really work within the firm before stepping into your interview.

Recent years have seen massive changes in legal hiring. Now more than ever, the smart candidate will use every resource at their disposal—and we think there’s no better resource for finding a law firm job than the Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms. Use our Prestige, Practice Area, Regional, Quality of Life, Summer Associate, and Diversity rankings to identify the firms that best fit your priorities, read our profiles to get the inside scoop on your target firms, and review the in-depth articles at the beginning of the guide to learn how to navigate the industry. Armed with knowledge, confidence, and a strong handshake, you can’t go wrong.
