“Is the current early interview week, which typically takes place in August following the first year of law school, still a viable recruiting model?” asks a newly-established NALP commission, in a bid to start a “holistic nationwide conversation" on the possibility of changing the current recruiting process.  According to Vinson & Elkins partner Thomas Leatherbury, who has proposed delaying 2L recruiting until 2010, "It really doesn’t make sense to make our decisions as far in advance as we make them now."
