“The legal world is much bigger than New York, or Washington, or even the United States.”

So sayeth Above the Law editor Elie Mystal in connection with ATL’s new weekly dispatch from London. Trying to disabuse Yanks of the ethnocentric notion that everything of importance happens in the good old US of A, the Am Law Daily also features news from across the pond (via Incisive Media’s London publication, Legal Week).

We at Vault have walked out and about in London for years, of course. In fact, our fourth annual edition of the UK Solicitor Survey (analogous to the Top 100’s Law Firm Associate Survey) is currently underway, and our Layoff Tracker includes the latest redundancies at UK firms.

While you’ll have to wait a few months for the release of our Top 50 UK rankings, here’s a sampling of the buzz about the top five firms (as the voting stands so far). Same caveats noted by Brian in his “Friday Buzz: V5 edition” post apply.

“Big blond boys”

“Arrogant tossers”

“The 'slow but posh' set of the magic circle”

“The most self-satisfied firm on the planet”

“Profitable firm, rubbish HR policy”
