Herewith another sampling from our ongoing UK Solicitor/Associate Survey: a somewhat random selection of responses to the question “What is an interesting or little-known fact about your firm?”

Claims to fame

One of the partners was on Top of the Pops.

The building where our offices are was used as Cruella De Vil's palace in 101 Dalmatians.

Turned Richard Nixon down for a job.

Fun: We have our very own former Lord Chancellor. Little known: What he does.

It was founded on April Fool's Day.

Hidden talents

Richard Dedman has a great karaoke voice.

The senior partner loves fancy dress.

One of the male senior partners has taken up knitting.

Air guitar abilities—a strength.

The senior partner dresses up as a Christmas elf for Christmas drinks.

Tea & biscuits

Partners make tea for assistants and trainees.

We get cream cakes when firm hits monthly targets.

We have the best biscuits ever.

The internal catering sandwiches are appalling.

How much alcohol plays a part in the running of the business world.

What’s in a name?

One of the anagrams you can make from the name is Yell "Rave On!"

If you say it quickly it sounds like "ass hurts".

I don't think anyone really knows how “Debevoise” is pronounced, partners included.

Dechert shows up in spell checks as “dechet”—the French for rubbish bin.

The use of an ampersand between S and M is forbidden. Not that interesting but could probably only happen here.

Theatre of the obscure

We sponsored the world firefighter games 2008.

We have the world's best propelling pencils.

It has been known for the internal post to be used to return underwear to its original owner.

At one of parties in the boardroom, one secretary got so drunk she locked someone in the cupboard.

The toilets on the 6th floor are haunted.
