Gah! Cyber-Monday! Is there nowhere on the whole World Wide Web that one can escape from all the exhortations to spend slightly less cash on things that a) one doesn't need, b) one's friends and relatives don't need either but that c) we all kind of want anyway? Well…I guess there's this here blog, for one. Henceforth, then, we promise not to bring you any bargain-related news all day. That's right, no 75% discounts. No free shipping. No complementary gift-wrap. No BOGO deals, great rates on financing, buy-now-pay-later enticements and definitely no coupons of any sort whatsoever. In short: a deal-free day.

Well, almost…

Despite the deal-overload we're all experiencing here at Pink Slipped HQ, it would be remiss of me not to point out the best offer on the Internet right now. Nope, it's not that 10-Inch Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw with Laser with Bonus 18-Volt LXT FM/AM Job Site Radio we've had our eye on (even if we don't have a use for it). So if not that, then what?

How about free job advice from the folks at Challenger, Gray & Christmas? According to a press release, the global outplacement and executive coaching firm "will suspend normal business operations on December 28 and 29 to provide free job search advice to callers from anywhere in the U.S." This year's event will mark the 24th year of the annual two-day call-in, and it will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST on both days. Should you wish to consult one of Challenger's experts on the day, the telephone number in 312-422-5010. And, if you're looking for something extra to do to keep your mind off all the cyber-deals a-floatin' round the Internet at the moment, why not click here for more information on the event.

Even those who already have jobs may find that they have something to gain by calling: "The Challenger phone lines will be open to anyone seeking job-search advice, even those who are already employed and considering a change of employer."

John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, even offered a taste of the advice that will be doled out: "Part of a successful job search is being in the right place at the right time," he said. "What we try to impart on callers seeking job-search advice are some strategies to increase the odds of them being in the best position when job openings do materialize."
