Best Retail & Consumer Products Internships

Vault surveyed thousands of current and former interns about their internship programs. Vault’s Best Retail & Consumer Products Internships represent the highest-rated internships among retail and consumer products companies.
Survey Methodology

In order to compile the 2020 Vault Top Internships Rankings, Vault invited more than 400 organizations to participate in our 2019 Internship Survey. We gathered information both from organizations that sponsor internships and from their interns. The internship sponsors provided Vault with descriptions of their programs, as well as details on the number of interns hired, duration of program, locations and departments in which interns are placed, and application requirements. We also asked current and former interns to comment on and rate their internship experiences on a variety of factors, including the application process, compensation and perks, quality of life, meaningfulness of assignments and training, diversity, and full-time employment prospects.

This year, nearly 14,000 current and former interns responded to our survey. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest, respondents were asked to rate their internship experiences in six core areas:

  • Quality of Life (office culture, hours, work-life balance, flexibility)
  • Compensation & Benefits (pay structure, subsidized expenses, office space, perks)
  • Interview Process (application process, requirements, number of interviews)
  • Career Development (including four separate ratings for training and mentoring, quality of assignments, real-life experience, networking opportunities)
  • Full-time Employment Prospects (opportunity to obtain a full-time job with this organization)
  • Diversity (including four separate ratings for diversity with respect to women, minorities, LGBT individuals, and other underrepresented groups)

To determine an overall score for each program, the ratings were assigned relative weights based on what interns told us they most value most in an internship. The overall scores are based on the following weighted formula: 30 percent career development, 20 percent employment prospects, 20 percent quality of life, 20 percent compensation, 5 percent overall diversity, and 5 percent interview process. Vault then compiled rankings of the top internship programs in 15 different areas. The Best Retail & Consumer Products Internships reflect the highest-rated internships among retail and consumer products companies.
