With Mother's Day approaching, what better time to celebrate women who manage the unique pressures that come with juggling a high-powered career and motherhood? Each of the women below is both a leading light in their respective career field and a mother, living proof that--while difficult--it is possible to have it all.

Though she certainly has more help now, Ms. Obama was on her own in the early 2000s as she served as executive director for community affairs at the University of Chicago. She was simultaneously working on her husband's campaign and raising two children.

Weird Criteria

Some of the obvioous ones such as Indra Nooyi, who has made many a honest remark on the challenges of achieving the balance, is missing, while others make a dubious presence  in the lsit. Why did Vault not check the obvious Fortune lists to identify better qualified candidates.

top ten mothers list

Sarah Palin? Amy Chua? Hilary Clinton? Could this list possibly be anymore predictible and obvious? Not to mention terrible selections. Did you read Amy Chua's self-centered, arrogant, badly written book? Next time, put a little thought into this list.
