Day in the Life

A Day in the Life: SEC Staff Attorney

9:00 a.m.: Arrive at office, read The Wall Street Journal for relevant articles related to the Commission, check voice mail and e-mail.

9:30 a.m.: Begin returning phone calls.

10:00 a.m.: Attend Open/Closed Commission meeting. These are meetings where the five members of the Commission meet to discuss and approved proposed and final rules, enforcement actions, and other issues of importance to the Commission.

12:00 p.m.: Lunch.

1:00 p.m.: On days when the Commission has adopted proposed rules or final rules, go to SEC web site (www.sec.gov) and print off the adopted proposed/final rule, if available. Read rule and familiarize with substance of the new rule and implementation timeframe for new rule. Print out press releases regarding these rules and study them as well.

5:30 p.m.: Leave work.
