“Biotechnology” refers to the application of biological research techniques to develop products and processes using biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives of organisms. Biotech processes have been used for thousands of years, yet the industry we know today is scarcely more than a quarter century old. The industry is rapidly growing—the biotechnology industry tripled in the 1990s and had a March 2009 market capitalization of $200 billion—which translates to rapidly growing career opportunities as well.

In addition to spending several years in the advanced technology practice at Arthur Andersen, Anil K. Rao has held a variety of roles in healthcare technology research, most recently with a life science-focused seed fund embedded at Cambridge University, and in equity research covering the regenerative medicine sector. His work has been published in Operating Room Manager, the American Journal of Medical Quality, and Nature Nanotechnology.
Anil has a BS in Materials Science from UCLA; an MS in Bioengineering from Columbia University; and is an MBA Candidate at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. Anil is a Series 7, 63 and 86 license holder with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Carole Moussalli has been a consultant in information design/delivery and professional development for Fortune 1000 clients in several industries, including pharmaceuticals and biotech. She earned an MS in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Carolina.
