Vault’s law firm associate survey continues to attract more and more respondents, making our rankings more comprehensive and adding depth to our profiles. In 2011, nearly 16,000 associates at more than 300 law firms across the country took our survey, ranking their peer law firms based on overall, regional and practice area prestige (associates were asked only to rank those firms with which they were familiar). Those ratings formed the bases for the Vault Law 100 and our regional and practice area rankings.
We also asked associates to comment on and rank their own law firms in terms of satisfaction, hours, compensation, treatment by partners, selectivity in hiring, pro bono, business outlook and other factors. From this data, we calculated an array of "Quality of Life" rankings, including our “Best Law Firms to Work For."
