Artists Space has been a haven for cutting-edge contemporary visual artists since 1972, describing itself as “a center for new ideas in a radically changing world.” It serves as a venue for artistic discussion and debate, as well as an exhibit space. The organization includes two locations--one of which houses a bookstore--and hosts various lectures, performances, and other events. In addition, Artists Space offers an arts education program for public school students in New York City.
