The Actors Theatre of Louisville is a nonprofit theatre that was founded in the 1960s by Richard Block and Ewel Cornett. What began as a small company has grown to become a centerpiece of Louisville, Kentucky’s Main Street. A recipient of numerous honors, the Actors Theatre of Louisville was the second theatre to be recognized as an outstanding nonprofit resident theatre with the Special Tony Award. Today, the theatre puts on more than 20 productions throughout the year and hosts the Humana Festival, which showcases new plays by American playwrights. The organization’s mission is “to bring people together through live theatre to celebrate, challenge and explore who we are.”

Interns at the Actors Theatre of Louisville work closely with the professional staff, learning about administration or technical theater. Interns work in a variety of departments, including arts administration; community relations and festival management; company administration; costumes; development; directing; literary management; education; lighting; marketing, public relations, and graphic design; media technology; production management; props; scenic artistry; sets; and stage management.
