International Paper Company is a global paper and packaging company with an extensive North American merchant distribution system, with primary markets and manufacturing operations in North America, Europe, Latin America, Russia, Asia and North Africa. As of 2010, the company had approximately 60,000 employees, and a 2009 annual sales of $23 billion. In August 2008, the company bought the containerboard packaging and recycling unit of Weyerhaeuser, becoming the largest maker of corrugated boxes in North America.
