Sony Internship Profile

The Scoop
Sony—not to be confused with Sony Music and Sony Pictures—focuses on electronics. The firm started out in 1946, making transistor radios for the news-hungry population of war-battered Tokyo. Workers were paid in raw rice (thus leading to the electric rice cooker). By the end of that year, Sony had moved on to produce vacuum tube voltmeters and similar gadgets. Today, Sony employs well over 150,000 people worldwide. Sony Corporation of America is a subsidiary of Sony Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo.
