New Dramatists Internship Profile

Founded in 1949, New Dramatists offers a playwright residency program through which a group of five to eight individuals are selected each year for a free seven-year residence. Playwright residents have access to the New Dramatists’ facilities, which include a mainstage theater, manuscript library, meeting room, private writing rooms, and studio space. Notable alumni include Maria Irene Fornes, Donald Marguiles, John Patrick Shanley, Suzan-Lori Parks, Nilo Cruz, John Guare, Lynn Nottage, David Lindsay-Abaire, Doug Wright, and August Wilson. The organization’s mission is to “find gifted playwrights and give them the time, space, and tools to develop their craft, so that they may fulfill their potential and make lasting contributions to the theatre.”
